About International Finance and Foreign Exchange
GoConqr OriginalWhat this page covers
The resources follow the usual path of an international finance course. Some deal with the foundations: the international monetary system, the gold standard, fixed and pegged exchange rate systems, and the balance of payments. Others look at how currencies are traded, including spot markets, bid and ask quotes, and the interbank market. A third group is about managing risk once you hold foreign currency exposure.
Where to start
Begin with the quiz Basics of International Finance. It asks you to work out a return in home currency when the foreign currency has depreciated, which quickly shows whether the basics are secure. Then read the mind map Foreign Exchange Parity Relations, which links supply and demand for foreign exchange to the balance of payments, the current account and the financial account.
If the vocabulary is new, the flashcard deck International Finance Chapter 3 covers terms such as the Over the Counter market, FX dealers and bid/ask. The deck Untitled_2 asks about nominal versus real exchange rates and absolute versus relative purchasing power parity.
Hedging and risk
Once the basics feel familiar, move to the mind map Techniques to Hedging FX. It sets out forward contracts, money market hedges, futures, swaps, currency options and netting, alongside transaction and economic risk. Then test yourself with the quiz Topic 1 FX RISK MANAGEMENT, which asks how a company should hedge a supplier payment due in three months. Shorter quizzes such as Netting, Money Market Hedge and Arbitrage let you drill one idea at a time.
Using quizzes and maps together
Read a map first to see how the ideas connect. Take a quiz on the same topic straight afterwards and note which answers you missed. Go back to the map for those branches only, then use flashcards for the definitions that keep slipping.
Where this unit sits
This unit belongs to the Financial Markets and Investments strand of Finance and banking. Browse the list, open whatever suits your course, and build your own maps and flashcards to fill any gaps.
Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
Start with the quiz Basics of International Finance. It checks how a return changes when the foreign currency depreciates, which underpins much of the unit. After that, the mind map Foreign Exchange Parity Relations gives a wider view of exchange rates and the balance of payments.
What do the mind maps cover?
They range from the international monetary system, the gold standard and fixed or pegged exchange rates to the forward market and the carry trade. Others cover foreign exchange risk, hedging techniques such as money market hedges, offshore centres, arbitrage and the balance of trade.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself, so it is worth checking them against your own course materials.
Who are these resources suited to?
The page is mostly university-level material, so it suits university students and professional candidates revising topics like parity relations, currency options and risk management. Teachers can also use the ready-made quizzes, maps and flashcards in their own classes.
Which quizzes are good for hedging practice?
Try Topic 1 FX RISK MANAGEMENT for a scenario about hedging a supplier payment with options. For single techniques, there are short quizzes called Netting, Leading and Lagging, Currency Invoicing and Money Market Hedge.
What if my topic is missing?
Look through the other formats first, as a topic may appear as a mind map, flashcard deck or note rather than a quiz. If nothing fits, a free account lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.
