- 2Stuart HallReception theory, the producers encode a certain message but, it is up to the audience to find the meaning. The audiences interpretation is effected by their culture.
1: Dominant reading - the meaning is understood and accepted.
2: oppositional reading - the audience rejects the intended meaning and creates their own meaning for the text.
3: negotiated reading - A compromise between the intended meaning and the audiences own meaning. - 3Hypodermic needle theoryArgues that audiences are passive and the media is injected like a drug. Audiences will instantly receive and agree with the intended method.
