   • A traditional narrative that is perceived to be historical fact
     • However, it is unautenticated

2. Purpose

   • To honour the character who has done something noble for the country
   • To honour a place that now contributes to part of the history of the country

   • Passed down from generations orally
     • Stories are usually retold to teach the younger generation a certain set of values

     • Recent past

       • Important historic figures

       • Heroic in nature
     • Action, suspense and conflict
       • difficult obstacles to overcome

     • Reflect the attitudes and values of the people
       • Main character is capable of overcoming any obstacles
