What is described as microscopic? Any specimen that can ONLY be seen using a microscope.
Why must the specimen in a light microscope be very thin? So that light can pass through it.
Give 2 advantages using a stereo microscope. 1. You see the image in 3D. 2. Has 2 eyepiece which allows scientists to observe their specimen with both their eyes.
List 3 differences between monocular or binocular microscopes and Stereo microscopes.
What is the name of label 1 and what does it do? 1. Eyepiece or ocular lens- Magnifies the image.
What is the name of label 2 and what does it do? 2. Coarse focus knob- Used to focus the image on low power.
What is the name of label 3 and what does it do? 3. Fine focus knob- Used to focus the image on high power.
What is the name of label 4 and what does it do? 4. Handle- Used for carrying the microscope.
What is the name of label 5 and what does it do? 5. mirror or lamp- Directs light up through the stage and specimen.
What is the name of label 6 and what does it do? 6. Stage- Where the specimen is placed.
What is the name of label 7 and what does it do? 7. Objective lens- Magnifies the image.
What is the most often unit measured by scientists to measure microscopic objects? Micrometre (μm)
What are the 2 types of electron microscopes? 1. Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) 2. Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM)
List 2 differences between TEM and SEM.
