In the first Persian invasion the Athenians were able to stop them at marathon

Second Persian invasion (led by Xerxes), they were able to route the Persian navy at Salamis

Athenians got rid of the Persians in 479 B.C.E. at Plataea

Sparta feels threatened by the Athenians

Athens builds a wall to defend against potential spartan invasions

Athens gathers allies

At the island of Delos Athen's allies agree to contribute their shared navies & money in order to continue to fight the Persians (where ever they are) and they form the "Delian League"

The Delian League starts to become more apart of Athens instead of a shared project to fight the persians

Major earthquake in sparta and the spartan helots (servants) started to revolt against the spartans

Spartans call for help to neighbors

Athens sends 4,000 hoplites to stop the spartan helot riot

459 B.C.E. two allies of sparta (megara and corinth) get into a dispute and athens decidedes to intervine and form alliances with megara.

Sparta starts to go to war with the athenians. This is usually called "The First Pelopanisain war", but it is not the peloponesian war.

Sparta x Athens war ends with the 30 Years Peace, a peace treaty which only lasted for 15 years.

The First Peloponesian War leaves Greece weak.
