Elements of:"City of Ember"

1. Main Conflict

   • Conflict/Problem: The people of Ember are in a underground city with dwindling resources, and no real knowledge of the world above. They don't even know that they are underground!
   • Cause: The Instructions to get out of the city when the time was to come were lost somewhere along the generations of mayors, but Lina Mayfleet has found them. The thing is that the people don; know that their is a way out. They don't even know that there is anything else in the world besides them.

2. Characters

   • Lisa Mayfleet: A slender 12-year-old messenger that discovered The Instructions to get out of Ember. She is best friends with Doon Harrow.
   • Doon Harrow: A serious boy that loves to fix things and make things right. He helped Lina use The Instructions to get out of Ember. He is best friends with Lina Mayfleet.

3. Setting

   • Time:A dystopian novel that is set 200 years after the collapse of humanity.
   • Place/Location: An underground city.

4. Theme

   • Message/Theme: If you think a little out of the box and go against the flow, you will uncover things that you'd never know otherwise.
   • How it's brought out in the book: Lina does things that she has been taught against with every grain of her being, and in the end, doing this helps her and Doon escape the city.
