    'Old' Vs 'New' Hollywood
It was a tough time for the American film industry during 1940, however the rise in technologies such as; special effects, better sound quality, and the use of colour made the production company rebound. The movies were now a whole lot more appealing. The silent era ran between 1917 - the 1920's, and from the 1920's to the 60's was the classic Hollywood cinemas in the sound era.

Slide 2

    Character types
There would be a much more strict set of characters in 'old' Hollywood, they would often be the same characters repeated but represented differently each time. Example; In a western film the characters may be presented as cowboys but one may be good, one bad, a woman who needs saving from the bad guy and somebody who helps the good guy. In 'new' Hollywood we are presented with much more of a variety of characters. This is due to the amount of knowledge and experience we now have with producing films. They have learnt how to present characters more realistically and that people are much more complicated than they seem, which allows diversity between characters.

    Camerawork
The camerawork used to be basic, there was often medium and long shots used throughout the whole  film.  People had only just started to use cameras for entertainment purposes, therefore they wasn't very confident with the technology, they also didn't have the technology which we have today. There are now more varieties of camera angles used, this is because people have learn't how to use a camera to get the best shots that they can possible get, considering lighting and shots. There is also a lot more equipment and technology available to film crews.

    The Longest Yard - 1974
Robert Aldrich directed the sports comedy, The Longest Yard in 1974, the film written by Tracy Keenan is based on a story by producer Albert S. Ruddy. The film follows a workaholic resident (Burt Reynolds) who is recruiting a group of prisoners and attempts to get them to play football against the guards.

Slide 5

The Longest Yard has had many remakes, one of these remakes was in 2001 which developed into a film called 'Mean Machine'. The film stared actors such as; Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham, and Danny Dyer.

Slide 6

    Third remake
The third remake kept the film title of 'The Longest Yard', which was also a comedy sports film which stared Adam Sandler and R'n'B artist 'Nelly'. It was reviewed as, "The cons' vs the guards in the bone-crunching remake of the 1974 film that used football as a metaphor for the fashionable anti-authoritarianism of its time."

Slide 7

All three films compare the different cultures of 'hooliganism' in different reflections. The 1974 and the 2005 versions of the film The Longest Yard both demonstrate the American 'Soccer' hooligan thrive, where as 'Mean Machine' is a prime example of  the football hooligan 'fantasy'. So it reflects the different cultures and lifestyles between two. The latest remake of the the film also highlights the relations between new and old Hollywood, and how times are more modern. Also how the American and British remakes are similar.
