Flashcards

Cards in this deck (12)
- 1Multi- Store Model (Atkinson and Shiffrin 1968)

- 2Multi-store Model Evaluation:) - Research indicates differences between STM and LTM. STM appear to be different in terms of capacity, duration and encoding. For example Miller suggested that STM had a capacity of 7 +/- 2 chunks were as LTM was infinite. Therefore the research add academic credibility to the model
- 3Multi-store Model Evaluation:( - The model is too simplistic because other models of STM and LTM suggest that each is divided into different stores
- 4Working Memory Model

- 5Working Memory Model Evaluation:) - Different areas of the brain are activated when doing different tasks. Using PET scans POSNER showed how different areas of the brain light up when doing certain tasks. Adding a wider academic credibility to the explanation.
- 6Working Memory Model Evaluation:( - The functioning of the central executive is vague. Little is known about the central executive and limited explanation is provided as to how info is sent to the 2 slave systems. This is a difficult part of the system to test
- 7Capacity of STMJacobs:
7 chunks of info +/- 2 - 8Capacity of LTMJacobs:
Probably infinite - 9Duration of STMPeterson and Peterson:
<18 seconds - 10Duration of LTMBahrick (Class photos):
Lifetime (potentially) - 11Encoding of STMBaddeley (similar/dissimilar words):
Acoustically - 12Encoding of LTMBaddeley (similar/dissimilar words):
Semantically
