Flashcards
Chapter 1.3

Cards in this deck (20)
- 1What is a table?Measurements and observations are put into a table, Which makes it easier to read.

- 2What is a graph?A graph shows trends in measurements even more than tables do.

- 3How many types of graphs are there, and name them? There are three types of graphs, Bar/Column graphs, Pie graphs and line graphs.
- 4What is a bar/column graph?A bar graph is a graph that presents grouped data with rectangular bars, it's lengths are proportional to the values that they represent.
- 5What is a pie graph?A pie graph shows the proportions of each grouping within a total.
- 6What is a line graph?Line graph require two sets of measurements that show continuous variation.
- 7Define continuous?Measurements that vary without breaking or falling into categories or groups.
- 8Define discrete?Measurements that fall into categories or groupings.
- 9Which types of graph's measurements are discrete and which are continuous?Pie graphs and bar/column graph's measurements are discrete. Line graph's measurements are continuous.
- 10In a pie graph how much percentage does the whole pie represent?A whole pie represents 100%.
- 11In a pie graph how much percentage does half of a pie represent?Half of a pie represents 50%.
- 12In a pie graph how much percentage does a quarter of a pie represent?Quarter of a pie represents 25%.
- 13What are examples of continuous measurements?Age, mass' length, time, volume, temperature and human height.
- 14Define curve of best fit?A curve of best fit connects the points from one to the next with a curved line.
- 15Define line if best fit? When drawing a line of best fit draw a straight line through the centre of all the points, making sure you have a balance between the number of points above and below the line.
- 16write a feature of a bar/column graph?Each quantity is shown as a different column.
- 17write a feature of a pie graph? Each quantity is shown as a different percentage or a fraction or a slice of the pie.
- 18write a feature of a line graph?Trends in measurements are easy to see.
- 19What are scientific reports used for?Scientific reports are used by scientists to communicate to other scientists how they performed in an investigation and what they found out by doing it.
- 20Why is a hypothesis different from a guess?A hypothesis is an educated guess.
