Cards in this deck (10)
- 1Research MethodsContext:
-Correlations
-Self-Report
-Observations
-Experiments - 2CorrelationsThe process of establishing a relationship between two or more things.
- 3Correlation CoefficientIs a measure of the strength of a correlation usually expressed as an 'r' value between 0 and 1. E.g. a 0.8 value means there is a strong correlation a 0 value means there is no correlation. This is often to indicate reliability, so a higher value suggests better reliability.
- 4Correlation AnalysisAims to investigate whether two variables are related. To find correlation analysis the data must be quantitative.
- 5Positive CorrelationIs a relationship between two variables such that an increase in one accompanies an increase in the other. For example we would find a positive correlation between exposure to aggressive models and violent behaviour.
- 6Negative CorrelationIs a relationship between two variables such as one increases the other decreases.
- 7Scatter DiagramsIs a graph used to display the data from a correlational study . Each point on the graph represents the participants score on scales for each of the two measured variables.
- 8Strengths- Can be conducted on variables that can be measured but not manipulated.
- Can demonstrate the presence or absence of a relationship so is useful for indicating areas for subsequent experimental research. - 9Weaknesses- A single correlation analysis cannot conduct indicate whether a relationship is casual.
- Correlation analysis can be used only with the variables that can be measured on a scale. - 10Self-ReportWays to obtain data by asking participants to provide information about themselves.
