About Multiplication and Division

GoConqr Original

What the unit covers

This unit is mostly about times tables and number facts, with a smaller set of resources on division and written methods. You will find quiz sets that ask for facts such as 8 x 9 or 6 x 4, flashcard decks for single tables from 2x to 9x, and mind maps on strategies and properties.

Where to start

  1. Take the Complete Multiplication table Test 10x10 to see which facts are secure.
  2. Use the single-table flashcard decks, such as 6x Table or 8x Table, for the tables that felt slow.
  3. Return to the 40 question Multiplication Quiz - No. 1 - Timed to practise recall against the clock.
  4. Try Multiplication Tables (1 to 20) if you want to go beyond 12 x 12.

Moving into division

Division is built on the same facts. The flashcard deck Mental division using multiplication in reverse shows the link, and the Halving deck offers easy sharing questions such as splitting a number between 2. Quizzes such as Pre-Test on Division and Division using multiplication tables give you practice, and the slide set on dividing 2 digit by 1 digit numbers shows a written method. The Long Division Process flowchart lays out the steps in order.

Using quizzes and maps together

Quizzes show what you know. Mind maps help you see why. Try a quiz first, note the facts you missed, then open a map such as Multiplicative Strategies, Multiplicative Properties or LONG DIVISION to review the method behind them. Finish with a second quiz and see what has changed.

Where it sits

This unit belongs to the Number strand of Mathematics. Nearly all of the material is aimed at primary pupils, with a few items for older learners. Teachers can use the Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 minute-a-day quizzes as short starter activities.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I start with?

Start with Complete Multiplication table Test 10x10. It runs through the facts in order, so you can see quickly which ones you know and which need work. Then move to the single-table flashcard decks for the gaps, and the timed 40 question quiz when you want speed.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. If you want to save your quiz scores or make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes, you can add a free account.

What do the mind maps on this page cover?

The mind maps cover methods and ideas rather than drills. Examples include Multiplicative Strategies, Multiplicative Properties, LONG MULTIPLICATION, LONG DIVISION and a map on problem types for multiplication. There is also one on 11 Times Table and another on decimal division by multiples of 10, 100 or 1000.

Is there anything on division, or only multiplication?

Yes, there is division too. You can try Pre-Test on Division, the A, B and C division quizzes, and Dividing whole numbers L1. The Long Division Process flowchart and a slide set on dividing 2 digit by 1 digit numbers show written methods step by step.

Who are these resources for?

They are mainly for primary pupils learning and practising tables, doubles, halving and written methods. Teachers can use them as ready-made material, for example the minute-a-day multiplication quizzes for Years 3, 4 and 5 as quick starters, or the fact family slides for a lesson.

What if I cannot find the table I need?

Check the single-table decks first, since there are separate ones for 2x up to 9x, plus sets covering 4x to 7x and 6x to 9x. If a gap remains, you can make your own flashcards or quiz with a free account.
