About Pediatric Nursing

GoConqr Original

What the unit covers

The resources on this page follow children from infancy through to adolescence. Some are about development: the quizzes on developmental concepts and on conception through young adult, plus decks such as Chapter 10 Growth and Development. Others are about conditions, including cerebral palsy, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, cystic fibrosis, bronchiolitis, meningitis, leukaemia and cleft lip and palate. A third group looks at the nurse's role, family-centred care and children with complex health needs.

Where to start

If you want a quick check of what you know, begin with the Cerebral Palsy quiz. It asks what the condition is, which organ it affects and what causes it. For development, try the quiz on developmental concepts, which asks a nurse to work out what shapes a toddler's height, weight and eye colour. The newborn assessment quiz then moves on to scoring a baby's heart rate, breathing, tone and colour.

Next, move to the condition-based material. The Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis flashcards cover diagnosis, age of onset and the number of joints affected. The Pediatrics Unit 2 Part 3 deck covers fracture types and their management. The Preparing children for procedures deck covers pain assessment tools such as FLACC and the COMFORT scale.

Using quizzes and maps together

  1. Take a quiz first and note the questions you miss.
  2. Open a mind map on the same topic, such as Ventricular Septal Defect, Childhood Asthma or Sickle Cell Anemia In Children.
  3. Go back to the flashcards for the details the map made you notice.
  4. Retake the quiz a few days later.

Case-style maps, like the one on a 14-year-old admitted with an asthma exacerbation, help you practise reasoning through a whole scenario rather than single facts.

Exam practice

Some listed resources mention ATI and NCLEX. The quizzes called Pediatrics- NCLEX style and SATA questions for PEDS suit select-all-that-apply practice. The midterm and exam quizzes help you rehearse under test conditions.

Where it sits

This unit belongs to the Lifespan and Specialty Nursing strand of the Nursing subject. Teachers can use the quizzes, slide sets and notes as ready-made material for class. Choose one topic today and see how far a quiz takes you.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the Cerebral Palsy quiz if you want a short check of one condition. If you would rather begin with the basics, try the quiz on developmental concepts, then the one on conception through young adult. Both give you quick feedback on what to review next.

What do the mind maps cover?

There are over 40 mind maps. Many are condition-focused, such as Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiolitis, Children with Leukemia and Cleft Lip and Palate. Others cover roles and care, like Role of a Pediatric Nurse, Pediatric Hospitalization and Family Centred Care in Complex Families, plus some patient case scenarios.

Are these resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users rather than by GoConqr itself, so it is worth checking details against your own course materials. A free account lets you save quiz scores and make your own resources.

Which exams do the resources suit?

The listed resources mention ATI and NCLEX. They are aimed at university students and professional candidates, so they suit nursing course exams and licensing-style practice. Pediatrics- NCLEX style and SATA questions for PEDS are good places to practise that question format.

Are there flashcards for specific topics?

Yes, there are over 30 flashcard decks. They include Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Immunisations, Pediatric Integumentary Disorders, Chapter 40: Respiratory infections and Adolescent. Others look at transitional care, loss and bereavement, and children with complex health needs.

What if the topic I need is missing?

Try a related quiz, map or deck, as many topics overlap, for example respiratory material appears in quizzes, maps and flashcards. You can also build your own notes, quizzes or flashcards on the missing topic, which is useful for teachers filling a gap in a course.
