The audience assumes that the girl walking is the protagonist due to it being a teen film and the strange outfit makes the audience wonder where the protagonist is going. The opening scene relates to the teenage target audience as it shows a 'typical' middle aged father trying to drop his child off at a party. The outfit is undistinguishable from this shot but suggests to the audience that the film is going to quirky and funny. In the background quiet upbeat music is playing which reflects the films genre. There is dialogue between the two characters immediately which gives more insight into the film and its humorous nature.
