Flashcards
Scientific Method
Cards in this deck (17)
- 1What is an aim?The goal of an experiment
- 2What is a hypothesis?A prediction or 'educated guess' about what you may find in an experiment
- 3What is equipment?Things that will be used in an experiment
- 4What are variables? The things that can be changed and they affect the experiment
- 5What is the method?Clear, unambiguous instructions that other scientists could follow to accurately repeat your experiment
- 6What are the results? The data that you collect
- 7What is the purpose of the discussion? To analyse and evaluate your results in detail
- 8What does the conclusion do?It answers the aim
- 9What is the scientific method (in order)?Observation, question, hypothesis, experiment/test, results, conclusion
- 10What are the types of variables?Independent, dependent, controlled
- 11What type of variable stays the same?Controlled variable
- 12What is an independent variable? What you change
- 13What is a dependent variable?What you observe
- 14Why do you need a control group in an experiment? To compare the independent variables to
- 15What is the difference between observations and inferences?Observations are data you collect with your five senses, inferences are deductions you make based off observations
- 16What is the difference between validity and reliability?Reliability is the extent to which outcomes are consistent when the experiment is repeated more that once, validity is the extent to which the instruments measure exactly what you want them to measure
- 17What are the differences between hypothesizes and theories?A hypothesis is an educated guess that hasn't be tested much or at all, a theory is a well-accepted answer that is well tested
