  1. 1What is a meta analysis?A meta-analysis is a statistical analysis that combines the results of multiple scientific studies.
  2. 2What is a systematic review?Systematic reviews are a type of literature review that uses systematic methods to collect secondary data, critically appraise research studies, and synthesize studies. Systematic reviews formulate research questions that are broad or narrow in scope, and identify and synthesize studies that directly relate to the systematic review question.
  3. 3What is a Randomised Controlled Trial?A randomized controlled trial (or randomized control trial;[2] RCT) is a type of scientific (often medical) experiment which aims to reduce bias when testing a new treatment. The people participating in the trial are randomly allocated to either the group receiving the treatment under investigation or to a group receiving standard treatment (or placebo treatment) as the control.
Randomization minimises selection bias and the different comparison groups allow the researchers to determine any effects of the treatment when compared with the no treatment (control) group, while other variables are kept constant.
  4. 4What are the two main types of observational studies?Cohort & Case-control
  5. 5What is a case-control study?Identify a group of people with the disease (cases) and a
second group of people without the disease (controls).
Investigate the level of exposure of each subject and see
if this differs between the two groups.
  6. 6What is a cohort study?Take a group of people, the ‘cohort’, collect information
on suspected causal factors / levels of exposure, then
monitor over time to observe whether the disease
    develops
  7. 7What is known as the gold standard for a clinical trial?Randomised controlled trial
  8. 8Whats the problem with small sample sizes?Unbalenced groups
