About Circles and Circle Theorems
GoConqr OriginalWhat the unit covers
The resources here deal with circles from two angles. Some focus on the circle theorems themselves. Others deal with measuring: arcs, sectors, circumference and area. A few lean on coordinates and tangents.
The flashcard deck called Circle Theorems lists rules such as a tangent meeting the radius at 90 degrees, and angles in the same segment being equal. Another deck includes the alternate segment theorem and opposite angles in a cyclic quadrilateral adding to 180 degrees.
Where to start
- Open the mind map Circle Theorems. It sets out the main rules, such as the angle at the centre being double the angle at the circumference, and the angle in a semicircle being a right angle.
- Work through the flashcards until you can state each rule in your own words.
- Take the quiz Circle theorem, which asks you to spot which theorem an image shows and fill in the missing angle and reason.
- Move on to the quiz Arc Length & Area of a Sector, then the mind map Arcs and sectors for the formulas.
Using quizzes and maps together
Read a map first, then test yourself. When a quiz answer is wrong, go back to the matching branch of the map and find the rule you missed. The quiz Circle Theorems asks you to show working step by step, which helps you practise writing reasons, as a GCSE Maths answer would need.
The flashcard deck Circles with and Without Coordinates gives multiple-choice questions with tangents and angle measures, so it suits a second pass once the basics feel secure.
Where it fits
This unit sits in the Geometry, Measurement and Trigonometry strand of Mathematics. Teachers can pick out a map or deck to set as a starter or revision task.
All of it was made by GoConqr users. Choose one resource today and see how far you get.
Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
Start with the mind map Circle Theorems, which lays out the main angle rules in one place. Then take the quiz Circle theorem, where you identify a theorem from an image and complete the angle and reason. That order gives you the rules first and a check straight after.
What do the mind maps cover?
They cover the main circle theorems, including angles on the same arc, the right angle in a semicircle and tangent lengths. There are also maps on arcs and sectors, with the arc length method using the angle over 360, and others on tangents and chords.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.
Who made these resources?
They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. That is why titles and styles vary. Some are tidy exam-style summaries, while others are personal revision sets, so it is worth trying a few to find the ones that suit you.
Do the resources suit GCSE Maths?
Nearly all the resources are at secondary level, and at least one mentions GCSE Maths. Topics such as circle theorems, cyclic quadrilaterals, tangents, arc length and sector area are covered. Check each resource against what your own course asks for.
What if I cannot find what I need?
Try a different format. A topic missing as a quiz may appear as a flashcard deck or mind map, such as the decks on chords, cyclic quadrilaterals and tangents. You can also build your own set with a free account.
