About Martial Arts and Combat Sports

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

Most of the page is taekwondo. The flashcard decks Kicks - CHAGI and Basic Kick Techniques pair Korean names such as ap chagi and yeop chagi with English terms like front kick, side kick and axe kick. Belt-by-belt decks, including 6th Kup, 5th Kup and 4th Kup, list blocks, punches, stances and parts of the hand and foot.

Beyond taekwondo you will find mind maps on judo, karate, boxing and fencing, plus jiu jitsu maps on mount position, side control and the guard. There are also slides on escapes and a baseball choke.

Where to start

  1. Begin with the stances and terms. Green Belt 6th gup covers attention, parallel, walking, sitting and L stances.
  2. Move to kicks, using Kicks - CHAGI first and then Basic Kick Techniques.
  3. Work up through the 6th, 5th and 4th Kup decks as blocks and punches build.
  4. Use Red belt Questions and Answers to check the patterns Do-San, Dan-Gun and Chon Ji.

Using quizzes and maps together

Read a map first to see the whole picture. The Chon-ji mind map, for example, explains that the pattern means Heaven and Earth. Then take a quiz to see what stuck. Black belt Road asks about General Choi and the development of taekwondo, while Karate Quiz and 10th Kup Theory Quiz test shorter topics. Return to the flashcards for anything you missed.

Where it fits

This unit sits in the Practical Activities strand of Physical education and sport. It suits learners who want vocabulary and technique reminders to go alongside training, and teachers who want something ready to share with a class.

Next step

Choose one deck that matches your current belt or sport, open it, and see how much you recall before turning the cards over.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

If you are new to taekwondo, start with Green Belt 6th gup for stances, then Kicks - CHAGI for kick names. If you prefer an overview, the Taekwondo and MARTIAL ARTS mind maps give a wide picture before you move into the detailed decks.

Does the page only cover taekwondo?

No. Taekwondo has the most material, but you will also find resources on karate, judo, boxing, fencing and jiu jitsu. These include mind maps on guard, mount position and side control, a boxing combos note and a deck on amateur boxing tactics.

What do the quizzes cover?

The quizzes include Black belt Road, which asks about General Choi and when taekwondo was developed, plus Karate Quiz, Taekwon-Do History, black belt test and 10th Kup Theory Quiz. They work well after you have read a map or run through a deck.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. A free account lets you save quiz scores and create your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes.

Who are these resources for?

They are aimed at school students practising terms, stances, kicks and history, and at teachers looking for ready-made material. Most of the resources are at a general level, with a smaller share at secondary and professional level.

What if I cannot find my martial art or belt?

Try a nearby resource first, such as a general terminology deck or a mind map on a related style. If your topic is still missing, you can make your own flashcards or mind map and use it for your own revision or lessons.
