About Political Geography, Geopolitics and Conflict
GoConqr OriginalWhat this unit covers
The resources fall into a few clear groups. The largest is superpowers: the mind map Superpower Geographies defines a superpower as a country able to project dominating power anywhere in the world, and sets out criteria such as size and population. Country maps then look at China, the USA, Brazil and the British Empire.
A second group follows political organisation of space. Flashcard decks such as Unit 3 - Political Geography - Key Terms cover state, nation, sovereignty, territorial integrity and boundaries. Another deck lists boundary lines and canals, including the Durand Line, the Radcliffe Line and the Suez Canal.
A third group covers the European Union, with mind maps on the CAP and EU enlargement, and a large set of mind maps on the social impacts of the Afghanistan conflict.
Where to start
- Begin with the mind map Superpower Geographies or Defining 'Superpower' if your course follows A-level style superpower topics.
- If you are working towards AP Human Geography, start with the key terms flashcards, then move to the quiz AP Human Geography Unit 4 Test (Chapter 8).
- Use the political map flashcards for North Africa, Southwest Asia and Central Africa to practise place knowledge.
Using quizzes and maps together
Read a mind map first to see how the ideas connect. Then take a quiz such as Superpowers or Politics Part 1: AP and Test Bank and note which questions slip. Go back to the matching map or deck for those points only, then retry the quiz.
Teachers can set a map as pre-reading and use a quiz as a quick check in class. The notes, such as the piece on China as a superpower and its costs, work well for extended-answer practice.
Where it sits
This unit belongs to the strand Economic, Political and Global Geography within Geography. It sits alongside the wider study of how power, borders and conflict shape places.

Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
For superpower topics, open the mind map Superpower Geographies, which sets out what makes a superpower and the criteria involved. For states, borders and sovereignty, start with the key terms flashcards for Unit 3. Both give you the vocabulary that the quizzes then test.
Which exams do these resources suit?
The listed resources mention AP Human Geography, A-level Geography, GCSE Geography and IB. Most are aimed at secondary study. A smaller share suits university-level work, so check each resource's content against your own course before relying on it.
What do the mind maps cover?
There are over 180 mind maps. Many cover superpowers, including China, the USA, Brazil and the British Empire, plus theories of how superpowers grow. Others cover the CAP, EU enlargement, contested boundaries and religion in political conflicts. A big set looks at the social impacts of the Afghanistan conflict.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. If you want to save quiz scores or build your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes, you can add a free account.
Is there anything for AP Human Geography practice?
Yes. There are several quizzes built around Chapter 8 and Unit 4, including test banks and sets based on Barron's and Kaplan, Princeton Review and Rubenstein. There is also a slide set called Topics Overview FRQ, plus Unit 4 flashcard decks on the political organisation of space.
What if I can't find the topic I need?
Try nearby terms, such as boundaries, sovereignty, separatism or the European Union, since the same ideas appear under different titles. If a gap remains, you can make your own mind map, flashcards or notes on it, using the resources here as a model.
