About Tourism

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

The resources follow the usual shape of a school tourism topic. The flashcard deck A tourists world covers types of tourism: beach holidays, short city breaks, activity holidays, health tourism, heritage and cultural tourism and seasonal tourism. Other decks cover key words such as disposable income, infrastructure, honeypot site and Butler's model.

Case studies to know

Much of the page is case studies, mostly as mind maps. Here is what you will find:

  • Blackpool: a mind map walks through the Butler model from exploration to involvement and beyond.
  • Benidorm: why it is popular, with package deals, a short haul flight, a huge beach and hot summers.
  • Lake District: problems such as footpath erosion, noise and congestion, plus solutions.
  • Tataquara Lodge, Brazil: a 15-room ecotourism lodge run by a cooperative of 6 local tribes.
  • Others: Jamaica, Kenya, Chamonix, Antarctica, Mallorca and Costa Rica.

Where to start

Begin with the mind map Geography - Tourism, which defines tourists and the tourist industry and outlines growth and UK tourism. Then read the key words deck so the vocabulary is familiar. Next, move to one case study at a time, starting with the Butler model on Blackpool.

Using quizzes and maps together

Try Tourism - Whole Unit Quiz early to spot weak areas. Then open the mind map for each missed topic, such as MASS TOURISM with its economic, social and environmental negatives. Return to the quiz afterwards and see what has stuck. The notes on GCSE Geography tourism for AQA are useful when you want a written summary, and some resources mention the IB and A-level Geography too.

Where it fits

This unit sits in the Economic, Political and Global Geography strand of Geography. Choose one case study today, then make a map or flashcard set of your own.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I start with Tourism?

Start with the mind map Geography - Tourism for the basics, then the key words flashcards. After that, take Tourism - Whole Unit Quiz to see which topics need work. From there, pick a case study such as Blackpool or the Lake District and revise it in detail.

Which case studies are covered?

The page lists mind maps, notes and flashcards on Blackpool, Benidorm, the Lake District, Tataquara Lodge in Brazil, Kenya, Jamaica, Chamonix, Antarctica, Mallorca, Costa Rica and Dubai. Some are ecotourism, some mass tourism, and some look at pressures on national parks.

Which exams do these resources suit?

Nearly all the resources are at secondary level. Those listed mention GCSE Geography, AQA GCSE Geography, the IB and A-level Geography. Check your own specification, since the resources were made by GoConqr users and may not match every course.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.

Who made these resources?

They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. That includes over 500 contributors sharing mind maps, flashcards, notes, slides and quizzes, so styles and depth vary. Compare a few on the same topic.

What if my topic is missing?

Try a nearby title first, for example a different case study on the same idea, such as mass tourism or ecotourism. If nothing fits, you can make your own mind map, flashcards or notes and use them for revision.
