About Adaptive Immunity and Lymphocytes
GoConqr OriginalWhat this unit covers
The resources follow adaptive immunity from the big picture to the detail. Overview maps such as THIRD LINE IMMUNE RESPONSE and Hallmarks of the Adaptive Immune Responses set out the basics: the response is specific, it starts after infection, and it is stronger on a second encounter because of memory.
T cells and MHC
A large share of the page is about T cells. The slide set Antigen presentation and MHC explains how MHC I is present on all nucleated cells and how its alpha chains bind beta 2 microglobulin. The mind map T cells +MHC covers antigen recognition, TCR structure, MHC class 1 and 2, superantigens and MHC polymorphism. The deck T cells and immunity asks which MHC CD4 and CD8 cells screen for and what the immunological synapse is.
B cells and antibodies
For the humoral side, the mind map Lymphocyte Maturation & Receptor Diversity walks through maturation stages. The quiz Immunology Block 2 tests antibody structure, including the Fab and Fc regions and how the variable and constant domains relate to idiotype and isotype. Further decks and quizzes look at B cell development, activation, class switching and affinity maturation.
A sensible order
- Start with an overview map to get the vocabulary.
- Read Antigen presentation and MHC, then the T cell maps.
- Move to the B cell and antibody material.
- Finish with tolerance topics, including the maps on oral tolerance and regulatory T cells.
Use maps to see how ideas connect, then take a quiz straight afterwards. Any question you miss tells you which map or deck to reopen. Flashcards are handy for short recall such as which cell screens for which MHC.
Where it sits
This unit belongs to the Basic Immunology strand of Microbiology and immunology. Teachers can pick individual items to set as revision tasks. Choose one quiz today and let the result guide what you open next.
Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
Try an overview mind map such as THIRD LINE IMMUNE RESPONSE to get the key ideas of adaptive immunity. Then move to the slide set Antigen presentation and MHC, which sets up the T cell material. After that, a quiz will show you what has stuck.
What do the mind maps cover?
There are over 40 mind maps. They range from T cells and MHC, T cell development and activation to B cells, antibodies, lymphocyte maturation, regulatory T cells and oral tolerance. Some are short overviews, while others follow a single lecture.
Which quizzes are good for antibodies and T cells?
Immunology Block 2 tests antibody structure, including the Fab and Fc regions. For T cells, the quizzes on antigen processing and presentation and on T cell development and activation are a natural fit. There is also a quiz on B cell activation and class switching.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes.
Who is this page for?
It suits university students who want to revise adaptive immunity or fill gaps, and teachers looking for ready-made material. All the resources here are at university level, so they assume some background in basic immunology.
What if I can't find the topic I need?
Browse the related topics in the list, since many decks and maps are named by lecture or week rather than subject. You can also build your own maps, flashcards or notes to fill the gap, and share them with your class.
