About Creation, Salvation and the Afterlife

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

The resources fall into two broad groups: creation, and death and what follows. On creation, the flashcard deck Creation runs through Day 1 to Day 7 and sets out YEC, OEC and the theory of Intelligent Design. The quiz Creation Quotes asks you to fill in the gaps in quotations about God's constant working. There is also a mind map on the idea of God as creator and one on the second creation account.

Salvation and the afterlife

The largest group looks at life after death. The mind map REALISED ESCHATOLOGY explains the belief that entry into the Kingdom of God has already happened rather than waiting in the future. The Catholic eschatology map covers the Paschal Candle, Michelangelo's Last Judgement, memorials for the dead, the Four Last Things, purgatory and judgement. Other maps cover heaven and hell, immortality, funeral rites, and Hindu, Islamic and non-religious views.

Where to start

  1. Open the Catholic eschatology map for an overview of the main ideas.
  2. Read The kingdom of God, which explains the parable of the sower and describes the kingdom as people who put God first.
  3. Work through a flashcard deck such as Immortality or Resurrection to fix key terms.
  4. Finish with a quiz, for example Afterlife or God's Creation.

Using maps and quizzes together

Read a map first, then close it and take a quiz on the same theme. Note what you missed and go back to that branch. Notes such as the one on Catholic teaching on purgatory help when you need to write an extended answer. Teachers can use the slide sets for lessons and the quizzes as quick checks.

Where it fits

This unit sits in the strand Christianity: Belief, Church and Practice, within Religion and theology. Some resources look beyond Christianity, so you can compare views. Choose one resource and make a start, then add your own flashcards for the terms you find hardest.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the Catholic Christian Themes mind map on eschatology. It brings together the Paschal Candle, the Last Judgement, memorials for the dead, the Four Last Things, purgatory and judgement. After that, move to the Kingdom of God map or a flashcard deck to fix the vocabulary.

Which exams do these resources suit?

The listed resources mention GCSE Religious Studies, A-level Religious Studies and AQA Religious Studies. Most of the material is at secondary level, so it suits school students. Teachers can also use it as ready-made material for lessons, starters and revision checks.

Do the mind maps only cover Christian views?

No. Many focus on Christian belief, including heaven, hell, resurrection and the Kingdom of God. Others cover Hindu views, Islamic beliefs about life after death, and non-religious reasons for believing or not believing in an afterlife, which helps with comparison.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource on this page is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users rather than by GoConqr itself. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes.

What can I use for creation topics?

Try the Creation flashcards for the seven days and the YEC, OEC and Intelligent Design terms. The Creation Quotes quiz tests key quotations, and there are notes comparing the Big Bang with the creation story. A mind map covers the second creation account.

What if I can't find the topic I need?

Browse the related maps, flashcards and notes first, as topics often appear under different titles such as immortality or end of life. If something is still missing, you can build your own mind map or flashcard set and use it for revision.
