About Genesis and Exodus

GoConqr Original

What the page covers

The unit follows the story from the first chapters of Genesis into Exodus. Most of the material is mind maps, with quizzes, flashcard decks, notes and a few slide sets alongside them. All of it was made by GoConqr users.

  • Creation and the Fall: the notes on Genesis 1 to 3, the Creation flashcards, and the maps God as Creator in Genesis 1 and God as creator in Genesis 2 and 3.
  • Early stories: Cain and Abel, the Flood and the Tower of Babel, which appear in the many Unit 2 Review maps.
  • The patriarchs: Abraham, the covenant, Isaac, and Jacob and Esau.
  • Exodus: Moses, the plagues, deliverance and the Ten Commandments.

Where to start

Begin with the mind map Genesis: Concept Map. It runs chapter by chapter from the creation of the universe through the Fall, Cain and Abel and Adam's descendants to Noah. Then open Chapter 7 - Covenant with Abraham, which sets out the covenants and the promised land.

The Unit 2 Review maps cover creation, the Fall, Cain and Abel, the Flood and Babel. Several people made their own versions, so compare two or three. Each one may stress different details, such as the seven days of creation listed in order.

Moving into Exodus

The flashcard deck Exodus 20:1-17 takes the Ten Commandments verse by verse. The maps Exodus1-4 and the Exodus notes help with Moses' early life. For the plagues, try the flashcard decks 10 Plagues and Ten Plagues of Egypt, then the quiz Trivia (The Plagues).

Using maps and quizzes together

Read a map first, then cover it and test yourself. Quizzes such as Genesis Quiz, Exodus Quiz, Abraham Test and Life of Moses show what has not stuck. Go back to the matching map for the gaps, then try the quiz again. Teachers can use a map as a class recap or set a quiz as a quick check.

Where it fits

This unit sits in the Bible strand of Religion and theology. Some resources mention GCSE Religious Studies, and most are pitched at secondary level. Choose one topic today, try its quiz, and then build a map or deck of your own.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the mind map Genesis: Concept Map. It works through the early chapters in order, from creation to Adam's descendants and Noah. After that, move to the covenant with Abraham map, then pick a quiz such as Genesis Quiz to see what you remember.

What do the mind maps cover?

Most of them cover Genesis: creation, the Fall, Cain and Abel, the Flood and the Tower of Babel, as in the many Unit 2 Review maps. Others follow Abraham, Jacob and Esau, and the opening chapters of Exodus. Several are student reviews, so details differ between them.

Are there quizzes on Exodus?

Yes. Look at Exodus Quiz, Life of Moses, Moses last years quiz, A Sprint Through Exodus Quiz and Trivia (The Plagues). There are also flashcard decks on the ten plagues and on Exodus 20:1-17, which are useful for checking recall before you take a quiz.

Are these resources free, and who made them?

Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.

Which levels and exams do they suit?

Most of the material is aimed at secondary school students, with some for general study. At least one resource mentions GCSE Religious Studies. Teachers can use the maps, slides and quizzes as ready-made classroom material, but check each against your own course.

What if I can't find the topic I need?

Check the nearby topics first, since creation, covenant and Exodus material is spread across maps, notes and decks. If something is still missing, make your own mind map, flashcard deck or quiz on it using the free tools.
