About Change Management and Organisational Development
GoConqr OriginalWhat the unit covers
This unit looks at how organisations change and how that change is planned, led and checked. The mind maps make up most of the page. Organisational Development lists core values such as long-term personal growth, commitment to action and research, and power equalisation and democratisation. Other maps cover diagnosis, motivation and resistance, planned and emergent change, and structural change.
Where to start
- Open the note Definition of OD and MC. It asks what change management is, where it comes from, and how an organisation adapts to its market like an organism.
- Move to Kurt Lewin's Change Model, which begins with unfreezing: seeing that old ways are not working.
- Read the note on Kotter's 8 Steps, which runs from urgency and coalition to goals, then compare it with the map on Kotter's 8 steps.
- Try the Leavitt Diamond Model note, then the Burke-Litwin Model map for a wider view.
Using maps and quizzes together
Read a map first, then test yourself. The quiz Change Management asks, for example, which option is not a change agent function. If an answer surprises you, go back to the matching map and look at that branch again. Flashcard decks such as Change Management - Week 1 and Recap Session 7 - barriers to change suit short, repeated revision.
Case studies
Some maps apply the models to real situations. The Parkland Shooting map uses the McKinsey 7 S framework and the Star Model to look at root causes and stakeholders. Friends Provident and Change Programs at FT are further worked examples. Use them to practise choosing a model and explaining why it fits.
Where it sits
This unit belongs to the People, Organisation and Leadership strand of Business administration and management (incl. project management). Pick one model, work through its map and quiz, then build your own flashcards to fill any gaps.
Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
Start with the note Definition of OD and MC. It sets out what change management is and where it comes from. After that, the map on Kurt Lewin's Change Model gives you a simple three-stage model, and the Change Management quiz shows what has stuck.
What do the mind maps cover?
The maps cover organisational development and its core values, Lewin's model, Kotter's 8 steps, the Burke-Litwin Model, Appreciative Inquiry, diagnosis, resistance, culture change and types of change. There are over 370 of them, so you can compare how different contributors have laid out the same model.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.
Who are these resources for?
Most are aimed at university students and professional candidates, with a smaller share for school students. Teachers can use the ready-made quizzes, maps and decks in class. A-level Business and A-level Business Studies are mentioned in some of the listed resources.
Are there quizzes on this page?
Yes, there are more than 20. Examples include Change Management, Change Management Quiz and Managing Change. Others cover organisational development, leading and managing change, and building urgency and the capability for change. Use them after reading a map to see which areas need another look.
What if I can't find a topic I need?
Check the notes and flashcard decks as well as the maps, since a topic may sit under a different title. If it still isn't there, you can make your own map, deck or quiz on it, which is also a good way to revise.
