About Other Team Sports

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

Other Team Sports sits in the Practical Activities strand of Physical education and sport. The resources look at team games beyond the usual few. Handball is the most heavily covered, with many mind maps, a slide set and several quizzes. Netball, rugby, floorball, hockey, softball, volleyball, flag football, dodgeball, ultimate and roller derby also appear.

Where to start

If you are new to a sport, begin with a mind map. The Handball map sets out equipment such as the leather or synthetic ball and resin, plus the indoor court of 40 by 20 metres with two goals. The BALONMANO-HANDBALL map adds basic rules, including the squad of 12 and the limit on court players.

For netball, the Netball Umpire Hand Signals flashcards cover signals such as hold time, offside, footwork and held ball. The mind map Analysis Of Performance - Netball covers the centre pass, free passes and the third rules.

Using quizzes and maps together

  1. Read one mind map and cover the branches you remember.
  2. Take a quiz such as Theoretical exam - Handball or Handball test, which ask about player numbers, steps with the ball and the goal area.
  3. Note the questions you missed, then go back to the matching branch.
  4. Finish with flashcards to fix the terms.

Vocabulary and performance factors

The VOLLEYBALL TERMS deck covers ace, block, dig, kill, libero, setter and more. For rugby, the maps on second row and back row players look at physical, psychological, technical and tactical factors. These suit students who meet performance analysis in courses such as GCSE PE.

Your next step

Choose the sport you are studying, open one map and one quiz, and see what sticks. You can also make your own maps and flashcards to fill any gaps you find.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with a mind map for the sport you are learning. The Handball map is a clear way in, covering equipment, the court and the people involved. Then try the Theoretical exam - Handball quiz to check what you remember, and return to the map for anything you missed.

Which sports are covered?

Handball has the most material, followed by netball, rugby and floorball. You will also find volleyball, hockey, softball, cricket, dodgeball, flag football, ultimate, roller derby and basketball. Some resources are short, and others go into rules, positions or performance factors.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself, so styles and depth vary from one resource to the next.

Do these suit GCSE PE?

Most resources here are aimed at secondary students, and one mentions GCSE PE. The netball and rugby maps on performance analysis and player factors may be useful if you are preparing for that kind of topic. Check each resource against your own course.

What can teachers do with this page?

Teachers can pick ready-made quizzes, flashcard decks and slide sets for a class, such as the Handball slide set or the Hockey slide sets. You can open them as they are, or use them as a model when making your own.

What if my sport is missing?

Some sports have only one or two resources, and others are not listed. If yours is missing, you can make your own mind map, flashcards or quiz. A free account lets you create these and save your quiz scores.
