About Renewable Energy and Energy Storage
GoConqr OriginalWhat the page covers
The resources split into generation and storage. On the generation side, there are many solar items: Photovoltaics maps, PV materials, Thin film Solar Cells, Solar Collector Positioning and Concentration solar technology. Wind is covered by Wind: Power and Potential, the Offshore Wind Farm map and the VILLONACO WIND POWER PLANT map. Geothermal and hydropower each have their own maps too.
On the storage side you will find maps on Cells and Batteries, Lithium metal anode, BMS, EMS, Li-ion cell models and Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells.
Where to start
Begin with the flashcard decks, which give you the vocabulary. The NABCEP Entry Level Study Guide deck runs through solar terms such as irradiance, air mass, declination and solstice. The Geothermal Power Plants deck covers dry steam plants, combined cycle plants and enhanced geothermal systems. The deck called 301 asks short questions, including the maximum earth resistance for a wind turbine mast.
Using quizzes and maps together
- Read a mind map to see how a topic fits together, for example Offshore Wind Farm, which moves from site and foundations to installation.
- Take a quiz on the same topic. Solar System Design tests sun-angle ideas, and the HelioScope quizzes ask about rack-mounted PV arrays.
- Go back to the map for any question you missed.
- Finish with the Energy Storage quiz to check the storage side.
Where it sits
This unit belongs to the Electrical Power and Energy strand of Electrical and electronic engineering. Most of the material is at university level, with a smaller share aimed at professional candidates. Teachers can use the maps and decks as ready-made starting points for lessons.
Next step
Choose one technology, open its map, and then try a matching quiz. When you are ready, build a map or deck of your own.
Frequently asked questions
Which resource should I open first?
Start with a flashcard deck to learn the terms. The NABCEP Entry Level Study Guide deck is a good first step for solar, while the Geothermal Power Plants deck does the same for geothermal. Then move to a mind map on the same topic and finish with a quiz.
What do the mind maps cover?
They cover solar, wind, geothermal and hydropower generation, plus storage topics such as cells and batteries, lithium metal anodes, battery and energy management systems, pumped hydro storage and polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Some maps are also on case studies, such as the Tesla project in South Australia.
Are the resources free to use?
Yes. Every resource on this page is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you create your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes.
Who are these resources for?
Most suit university students and professional candidates studying renewable energy and storage. Teachers can use them as ready-made material. The page lists no exams, so use them to build understanding of the topics rather than to follow a set syllabus.
Which quizzes are there?
There are more than 9 quizzes. They include Solar System Design, the Energy Storage quiz, a Warranty Exam on solar installations and several HelioScope quizzes on PV array design. Try one after reading the related mind map to see which points need another look.
What if I cannot find my topic?
Look at the neighbouring resources first, since solar, wind and storage topics often overlap. If something is still missing, you can make your own mind map, flashcards or quiz with a free account and keep it for revision.
