About Training and Development

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

The resources follow the life of a training programme. They start with spotting a need, move on to design and delivery, and finish with measuring results. Along the way you will find material on induction, on-the-job and off-the-job methods, coaching, mentoring, talent development and leadership development.

Where to start

Begin with the mind map Training Needs Analysis. It defines the process by which an organisation's HRD needs are identified and articulated, and it covers its purpose, its importance and the levels of needs analysis. Next, open the map on the framework for the HRD process, which sets out four stages: assessment, design, implementation and evaluation. Together they give you a frame to hang everything else on.

Methods, people and development

  • The mind maps Training Employees, On The Job Training and Off The Job Training compare methods and look at what makes training effective.
  • The flashcards HR Essentials - Chapter 8 Development cover employee orientation and how it is run.
  • The maps Leadership development, Talent Development and Leadership Coaching look at growing people over the longer term.

Evaluating training

The flashcard deck Training and Evaluation asks what evaluation means in HRD, what ROI and ROE are, and how Kirkpatrick's 1994 model works. Pair it with the map Training Evaluation to see the ideas laid out, then check yourself.

Using quizzes and maps together

Read a map first, then try a quiz such as Training and Development Quiz or Chapter 8 Training and Developing Employees. Note the questions you miss, go back to the matching map or flashcards, and try again. This unit sits within the Developing and Managing Performance strand of Human resources, so it links naturally to appraisal and performance topics. Teachers can pick a map or deck to share with a class, and anyone can make their own versions once they have found a gap.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the mind map Training Needs Analysis. It explains the definition, purpose and importance of the process, and it shows the levels of needs analysis. Then move to the map on the A DImE framework for the HRD process, which gives you the overall order of the topic.

What do the flashcards cover?

The decks range from orientation and onboarding to evaluation. Training and Evaluation asks about the training cycle model, ROI, ROE and Kirkpatrick's 1994 model. Other decks look at HRD interventions, HRD needs analysis, transfer of training and the costs and benefits of training.

Are these resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users rather than by GoConqr itself, so it helps to compare a few on the same subject. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own.

Who is this page for?

It mainly suits university students and professional candidates who want to revise training and development. Teachers can use the maps, decks and quizzes as ready-made material. A few resources are pitched at school level, so school students can dip in as well.

How can I use the quizzes with the mind maps?

Read a map such as Training Evaluation, then take a quiz like Training and Development Quiz without notes. Check which answers you missed, return to the map or a flashcard deck on that point, and retry. This loop shows you where your gaps are.

What if I can't find the topic I need?

Try nearby resources first. For example, coaching and mentoring appear in several maps, decks and notes, including Types of Mentoring. If a topic is still missing, you can build your own mind map, flashcards or notes and have them ready for revision.
